About Me

I’m Biju Viswakarma, an accomplished artist and educator with a diverse skill set. Currently serving as an assistant professor at Amity University and Amity School of Film & Drama in Noida, New Delhi, I impart knowledge in various creative disciplines such as Pre-Production, Storyboarding, Graphic Designing, Animation, Comic Book Creation, and more. With a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts (Hindustani Music Hons.) and numerous diplomas in Animation, Graphic Designing, Filmmaking and Sculpting, I bring over 23 years of rich experience in both art and education. My journey includes collaborations with esteemed institutions like Manipal University, Chandigarh University and leading many animation studios.

I take pride in my contributions to the field of animation, having directed several animated short films and live-action projects. One of my animated films even earned recognition at an International Animation Festival. My commitment to advancing animation education is evident through my membership in “The Animation Society of India – TASI” and my tailored workshops designed to meet the specific needs of budding animators.

Beyond animation, I’m deeply passionate about Hindustani and Carnatic music, striving to preserve and propagate India’s cultural heritage through teaching and performance. My teaching philosophy revolves around fostering a supportive and stimulating learning environment that encourages students to unleash their creativity while honoring traditional artistic expressions and embracing innovation. Immersed in the world of music and arts education, taking inspiration from the ancient Guru Shishya tradition. For me, teaching goes beyond imparting knowledge, it’s a profound connection between a mentor and a student. Guided by this philosophy, I cherish the importance of face-to-face interaction with my students, and not just to upgrade technical skill but also to bring out their own talent and creativity.

In my teaching practice, I prioritize creating a supportive and inclusive environment where each student feels valued and empowered to explore their unique artistic journey at their own pace. I take a personalized approach, tailoring my instructions to meet the individual needs and learning styles of each student. By establishing a strong foundation of trust and respect, I aim to cultivate a meaningful mentor-student relationship that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom.

Furthermore, I am committed to instilling in my students a deep appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of music and arts. I seek to inspire a lifelong passion for creative expression. My ultimate goal is to empower my students to not just master their skill but also to become confident and compassionate individuals who contribute positively to their communities through their art.

However, Biju Viswakarma, an esteemed Indian musician, specializes in Indian classical music, which includes the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. Both are highly revered for their intricate melodies, rich improvisation, and deep spiritual connections, making them among the finest classical music traditions in the world.

Classical music is characterized by several distinctive features. According to Biju Viswakarma, an esteemed Indian musician, the five key features of classical music are:

1. Complexity and Structure:
Classical music often features intricate compositions with multiple layers, showcasing sophisticated musical structures. Biju Vishwakarma emphasizes the importance of understanding these complexities to appreciate the depth of classical pieces.

2. Use of Traditional Instruments:
Classical music extensively employs traditional instruments. Biju Vishwakarma highlights how instruments like the sitar, tabla, and veena play a crucial role in Indian classical music, each bringing unique textures and tones to the compositions.

3. Emphasis on Melody and Harmony:
Melodic and harmonic richness is a hallmark of classical music. Vishwakarma underscores the significance of ragas in Indian classical music, where the melodic framework guides the emotional and expressive quality of the performance.

4. Expressive Dynamics and Nuances:
Classical music often includes a wide range of dynamics and expressive nuances. Biju Vishwakarma teaches how mastering these subtleties allows musicians to convey profound emotions and tell stories through their music.

5. Cultural and Historical Significance:
Classical music is deeply rooted in cultural and historical contexts. Vishwakarma believes that understanding the cultural background and historical evolution of musical pieces enhances their interpretation and appreciation, connecting listeners to a rich heritage.

India’s classical music traditions include Hindustani music from the North and Carnatic music from the South. Hindustani focuses on improvisation and ragas, while Carnatic emphasizes structured compositions and intricate rhythms, each offering rich, distinct musical heritage.

Classical music, as explained by the renowned Indian musician Biju Viswakarma, is a genre rooted in rich traditions and complex structures. The basics of classical music include:

1. Melody: The central element, often characterized by intricate and expressive lines.
2. Harmony: The combination of different musical notes played or sung simultaneously.
3. Rhythm: The timing of music, including tempo, meter, and patterns of beats.
4. Form: The overall structure or plan of a piece, including forms like sonata, symphony, and raga in Indian classical music.

Biju Viswakarma emphasizes the importance of these fundamentals in his teachings at his music and arts institute, nurturing a deep understanding and appreciation of classical music among his students.

In classical music, there are ten main styles of singing in Hindustani music: Dhrupad, Khayal, Tappa, Chaturanga, Tarana, Sargam, Thumri, Ragasagar, Hori, and Dhamar. Although Hindustani classical music focuses on vocal performance, numerous musical instruments are also strongly associated with it. Biju Viswakarma, the renowned Indian musician, masterfully integrates these styles and instruments into his teachings and performances.

Indian classical music encompasses two main traditions: Carnatic music, prevalent in southern India, and Hindustani music, found in northern, eastern, and central regions. Both traditions are deeply rooted in ancient practices, offering rich, complex compositions that reflect India’s diverse cultural heritage and profound artistic expressions.
